Lohiau - Painting by Linda Rowell Stevens. Lohi‘au, chief of Kaua‘i was brought to the Big Island by Hi‘iaka to join Pele. Upon arriving, Lohi‘au & Hi‘iaka witnessed Pele’s anger & jealousy as she burned Hi‘iaka’s beautiful ohia groves.

Painting by Linda Rowell Stevens. Malaekahana gave birth to twin girls, La‘ieikawai and La‘ieilohelohe. The girls were raised separately. La‘ieikawai was raised by her grandmother. Wherever she was, a rainbow could be seen.
Keaomelemele - Painting by Linda Rowell Stevens. Maiden of the Golden Clouds, Daughter of Ku & Hina, Keaomelemele lives above Hawaii in Kuai-he-lani among the yellow clouds until she comes down from the sky and learns the hula and the chanting. It is said her chanting was so beautiful and powerful that the mountainside of Konahuanui is split from Waiolani and Nu‘uanu Valley is formed on Oahu.

Painting by Linda Rowell Stevens. Pele’s young sister Hi‘iaka has now blossomed into a beautiful young woman. She is strong and sweet natured. Hi‘iaka meets another young woman whom she befriends, named Hopoe. The two become constant companions and Hopoe teaches Hi‘iaka the gift of making lei and the beauty of dancing Hula.
Hi'aka and the Mo'o - Painting by Linda Rowell Stevens. Pele has pleaded with her sisters to bring her love, Lohi‘au, to her. Only Hi‘iaka is brave enough to attempt this feat. Pele gives Hi‘iaka her magic pau (skirt) to use as protection.

Hi'iaka and Lohiau - Painting by Linda Rowell Stevens. Pele, Goddess of the Volcano, requests her sister, Hi‘iaka, to bring her love, Lohi‘au, to her.  Hi‘iaka endures many perils along her journey to find Lohi‘au.  They fall in love but remain loyal to Pele.
